About the Chef:
Steve moved to Boston, MA in 2002, where he met the love of his life, his wife Ellen, who is a native of Rochester, NY. After stints in Nantucket, MA, Vail, CO, and Santa Fe, NM, Steve and Ellen returned to Buffalo and purchased Bistro Europa on Elmwood. Holding true to their belief in local food and supporting family farms, the Gedras helped usher in the now ubiquitous farm to table ethos that is now prevalent in many of Buffalo’s finest restaurants.
The Gedras opened The Black Sheep in 2016, garnering many awards, including a coveted James Beard Foundation nomination in 2017. Steve and Ellen are co-chairs of Dining Out for Life, an event that brings awareness to AIDS and HIV. He believes in access to healthy and fresh food for every person, and that many of the world’s problems could be solved if people would break bread with each other more often. Steve has worked with some of the country’s best Chefs, including Thomas Keller, Eric Ripert, and Suzanne Goin.
