Explore & More Children’s Museum is very excited to welcome everyone to our new home at Canalside. To help make your visit as enjoyable and engaging as possible, we have developed customized visual, social, communicative, sensory, and behavioral supports. You will find these supports throughout the museum – from our sensory backpacks and call-ahead accommodations, to our sensory-friendly rooms.

Below are tips and resources we suggest you review and download prior to your visit:

call-ahead accommodations

If you are planning a visit with a child who as special needs, please call (716)655-5131 ext. 7080 to make special arrangements for a staff member to meet you upon entry and with resources or other tools to enhance your child’s experience at the Museum.

universal changing table

For your convenience, we offer a universal changing table on the second floor. This table can be used for both children and adults up to 250 pounds.


We are a KultureCity Certified Sensory Inclusive Venue!

sensory friendly backpacks

Upon request, we have quiet kits that contain items such as noise canceling headphones, sensory toys and visual supports, designed to enhance your child’s Museum experience. The headphones and sensory toys must be returned prior to your departure.

Sensory backpacks are available at the Museum Admissions desk, and can be requested upon arrival or as needed.

Backpacks include sensory manipulative and fidget toys, in addition to noise canceling headphones and sensory chew necklaces.

If your child needs a break during their Museum visit, there are two quiet spaces located in the Museum; on the second floor inside our Moving Water Play Zone, and on the fourth floor across from our Person Centered Services Community Treehouse exhibit.

These sensory friendly rooms contain a space with special lighting, calming sensory elements that will help support children and families who need a break or are overwhelmed from the stimulating environment.
