Visiting the Museum

When are you open?

The Museum is open Wednesday – Saturday from 10:00am – 5:00pm and on Sunday from 12:00pm – 5:00pm. The first Friday of every month the Museum is open from 10:00am – 8:00pm. We are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, except for select school holidays. Check the website calendar for these special openings.

Are the Museum and exhibits wheelchair and stroller accessible?

Explore & More Children’s Museum, the exhibits, and restrooms are all wheelchair and stroller accessible.

Where can I find a changing table?

There are changing tables in both the men’s and women’s restrooms. The restrooms are marked with the symbol to the left. We request that you use these designated areas for changing and not Museum exhibit space.

If I need to use the restroom, do I have to take my child with me?

Yes. Children need to be accompanied by an adult at all times. Children may not be left unattended in the Museum or in the restrooms.

How long does it take to experience the Museum?

Explore & More offers nine different play zones. You and your children will determine how long you stay during a single visit, but an average visit lasts 1 ½ – 3 hours. Consider purchasing a membership to enjoy the Museum all year long!

What age range does the Museum serve?

The exhibits are designed to engage ages birth to 10. Our programming, especially during family fun weeks over school breaks, will interest all ages.

Do you have a place to eat or can I bring my own food into the Museum?

Visitors are welcome to bring their own food into the Museum and enjoy it in our snack area. We ask that you do not have food and drink out on the exhibit floor, only in our designated snack room. There are vending machines in the building for snacks and drinks, and small snacks only available for purchase at the admissions desk of Explore & More. If you wish to leave the Museum for lunch, please provide you receipt for admission back into the Museum later the same day.

Do I have to make reservations to bring a large group?

In order to receive the discounted group rate, groups of 10 or more paying people must pre-registered. If you have a group larger than 36 children, you will need to make a reservation for a Monday or Tuesday. Please see our Group Visit page for more information about reserving time for your group.

Can I nurse my child in the Museum? Is there a private room?

Yes, you are welcome to nurse in the Museum! We do not have a private nursing area. You are welcome to sit in our snack room or one of the many benches throughout the Museum or hallway.

Are you an allergy-free institution?

Our exhibits are thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis, yet we cannot guarantee that Explore & More is an allergy-free institution.

Why do you keep the front door to the Museum open? Can we close the front door?

To ensure the safety of our visitors, the door must remain open at all times.

Can we take pictures in the Museum?

Yes, guests are welcome to take photos in the Museum.

Are service animals allowed in the Museum?

Yes, service animals are allowed in the Museum.


It is a children’s museum, why do I have to pay admission as an adult?

Explore & More is a place where children play to learn and adults learn to play again. Through hands-on experimentation and interactions at our exhibits with each other, you’ll both have a great time!

What is the cost of admission?

Admission is always FREE to members. Non-members admission is $7.00 per person (children and adults) and free for children under the age of 1. Families in WIC or Arts Access are free with ID and card.

Does the Museum offer a membership or annual pass?

Yes. Explore & More offers an annual membership. Please visit our membership page for more information.


What are the benefits of becoming a member?

Your Family Play Explore & More membership gives you:

I have a membership card from another children’s museum, can I use it here?

Any guest with a membership card with a valid Association of Children’s Museum logo on the card will receive 50% off admission for up to 6 people to Explore & More.

What if I forgot my membership card?

Members must show a valid membership card and one additional form of ID with a matching address to gain free admission to Explore & More. If you forgot your membership card you can either pay the $7/person admission fee, or request a new card. We will issue only 1 replacement card annually per membership. Reprints will incur a $5 processing fee.

Why do I need to provide an additional form of ID every time I visit?

The member named on the membership card must provide additional ID with a matching address when visiting the Museum. We require an additional form of ID to help provide a more secure environment and to protect the value of your membership. Should your card ever get lost or stolen, ID prevents abuse and misuse.

I am a museum member, what forms of additional ID are acceptable?

We will accept any form of ID with a matching address. A driver’s license is the easiest and most common form of ID.

What if I don’t have an additional form of ID?

The first time you don’t have an additional form of ID we will punch your membership card and allow you admission to the Museum. The second time, you will be asked to pay the regular $7/person admission fee.

I’ve lost my membership card, what should I do?

Please contact the membership office at (716) 655-5131 x20,, or stop by the Museum admission desk to request a new card. Reprints will incur a $5 processing fee and we will only issue 1 replacement card annually per membership.

What do you mean by “up to two adults” living in the same household?

A membership may be set up for one or two adults who reside in the member household. If only one adult lives in the household, only that adult may be listed on the membership. If you bring adults who live outside of the member household often, consider the FamilyPlay + Add a Guest membership level. This allows you to bring one guest free of charge each time you visit.

My spouse will never visit; can I name someone else in his/her place?

You may if the other adult lives in the member household. If the adult lives outside the member household, you will need the FamilyPlay + Add a Guest membership level to receive free admission.

I am a caregiver for a museum member, what do I need to visit the Museum?

A caregiver must have the member Caregiver card along with an additional form of ID with a matching address to the member household. A utility bill or other official mailing is acceptable.

How do I update my contact information and/or address?

Please contact the membership office at (716) 655-5131 x20,, or stop by the admission desk at the museum with your new contact information. We will update your record accordingly. Your old cards must be returned to the Museum before new cards can be issued.

What identification does my child need when visiting the Museum with a friend?

Your child will need to provide a valid membership card. The child’s membership card only provides admission for the member child.


What else can I do in the area with my family?

There are many restaurants and shops in East Aurora and you can also visit Hamlin Park. For more details please check with our museum staff during your visit.

I heard Explore & More is moving, is that true?

Explore & More is growing! The Museum has been planning a major expansion and move to Canalside on the Buffalo Waterfront for the past few years. We anticipate opening there in 2018. At that time, the East Aurora location will close.

How can I volunteer at the Museum?

Please visit our Volunteer page to fill out the volunteer application. A museum representative will be in touch after the form is received. We would love to have you volunteer!

Birthday Parties

Do you offer birthday parties?

Yes! Please check out our Birthday Party page for more information and to request a date.

Can I have my child’s birthday party at the Museum without reserving the party space?

No. Unreserved birthday parties are not allowed at the Museum. Please see our Birthday Party page for more information about how to book a party.

Can I have more than 1 of my child’s birthday parties at the same time?

Yes, as long as you stay within our guidelines of up to 18 children and 36 total people. We encourage you to pick one theme that they would both enjoy.

Can I bring in extra food or have my party catered?

Yes, extra food and drinks can be brought for your party. There is no alcohol allowed.

What time should I arrive for my party?

You may arrive 15 minutes prior to the start time of your party. The party room will already be decorated and a host or hostess will be there to help you with any additional set up.

Can I bring my own decorations?

Yes, please check with the floor manager to arrange a time that they can be dropped off. We do not allow streamers or decorations to be hung on our walls.

Can I have tablecloths in a certain color?

Check with the floor manager to see if we have certain colors available.

I want to invite my child’s whole class and I don’t know how many parents will attend. What if I go over the 18 children and 36 total?

We know this can be limiting, but these numbers are strictly enforced. We allow no more than 18 children and 36 people total per birthday party. If you think you will have a larger party, we suggest looking for a larger venue with a bigger room to rent.

If we are Explore & More members do we count in the total number?

Yes. However, membership does entitle you to an overall party discount.

If I have guests that are members do I have to pay for them?

Yes. Parties are separate events from museum visits.
