Cook the books with us this August as we read and cook our way through an adventure! Each class will focus on one story and a recipe that goes along with it.  Classes can be taken individually or you can sign up for all four!

Note: classes will be hosted via Zoom. Please be sure to have the list of ingredients on hand prior to class.

bring me some apples and i’ll make you a pie!

Learn about Edna Lewis and her influence as a female African American chef on the farm-to-table movement in this virtual program. Together we will also bake a tasty apple treat! For the apple treat you will need to have one sliced apple, puff pastry, cinnamon sugar and water. We will be using the oven for this program so make sure you bring your grown-up with you to this fun cooking class!

loaves of fun

Learn about types of bread from around the world while baking our own delicious bread. Together we will bake delicious banana bread muffins! You will need all purpose flour, baking soda, salt, unsalted butter, light brown sugar, eggs, VERY ripe bananas and vanilla extract. We will be using the oven for this program so make sure you bring your grown up with you to this fun cooking class!

what can you do with paleta?

Learn about Paleta or Mexican Ice Pops, a tasty treat to keep us cool all summer long. Together we will make Paletas (Mexican Ice Pops) that are all the colors of the rainbow just like the story. You will need all fresh fruit (any kind), water, sugar and Popsicle molds or an ice cube tray and craft sticks.  We will be using freezer space for this program so make sure your freezer is ready!

world pizza

Who doesn’t love pizza?! In this program we will learn about how a love of pizza can bring people together. We will make personal pizzas with our favorite toppings! You will need an English muffin, pizza sauce, cheese and your favorite pizza toppings! We will be using the stove top and a pan for this program so make sure you bring your grown up with you to class today!
