World Environment Weekend

World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5 and encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment. At Explore & More, we will celebrate World Environment Weekend presented by LaBella Associates on June 7 and 8 with activities and programs throughout the museum so our visitors can come play, explore, and learn how they can be environmentally friendly.
Activities from 11am-3pm include:
–Paint river stones or flower pots (courtesy of Home Depot) in the Art Studio and learn about the importance of watersheds to Lake Erie. Then plant marigold seeds from LaBella Associates’ table.
–Sample ‘Beach Cleanup Pudding’ featuring graham crackers and pudding in the Cooking Galley while finding out why we should recycle our food containers.
–Decorate mini-trellises in the Tinkering Tank and then plant sunflower seeds at LaBella Associates’ table.
–Take part in a museum-wide scavenger hunt as you search for wildlife native to Western New York. Take home a special prize with a completed scavenger hunt card.
—Saturday Only: Interact with animal pelts and replica skulls of local mammals thanks to our guests from the Department of Environmental Conservation. Children will also learn more about predator/prey relationships in nature.
The museum will be open 10am-4pm on Saturday and 10am-3pm on Sunday. Members can start playing at 9:30am.
