Chief Executive Officer



The Director of Operations is an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team of the Museum. The incumbent has responsibility and decision-making authority for operations management of the Museum, including its physical and technological resources.



  • Provides the leadership, vision and long-range strategic planning for the Museum’s stability.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for operations, facilities management and information technology.
  • As a member of the Executive Team, provide value-added contributions to the Team, promoting cooperation and integration of all functional areas.
  • Adopt “best in class” practices for operations and model the approach for interactions across the organization.


  • Oversees the Museum’s plant operations. Directs and plans facility projects and activities including establishing and administering short and long-range facilities objectives, architectural and engineering services, construction, and maintenance services. Conducts timely reviews of all security and emergency procedures.
  • In cooperation with outsourced firms, assumes responsibility for daily management, including development and implementation of effective security, IT, and contracts management of services.
  • In cooperation with internal staff and outsourced information technology firm, assumes responsibility for information technology, including database management, hardware and    software management, security, employee compliance and social media issues.
  • Develop and document all policies and procedures relevant to operations.


In addition to Museum-wide responsibilities noted above:

  • Leads the Operations team, to include providing career development, objective and measurable goals, knowledge growth, objective and timely feedback and counseling.
  • Instills in the Team an appreciation of the Museum’s mission, a passion for promoting it, and line-of-site awareness to their role in the success of the organization.


In addition to Museum-wide responsibilities noted above:

  • Prepare, monitor, and adhere to annual budgets for all areas under span of control.
  • Develop, monitor, analyze and adhere to metrics that objectively measure success and opportunity for continuous quality improvement in the Operations area.
  • Provide transparent feedback to staff, Executive Team, and Board of Trustees.


  • Minimum Bachelor Degree in technology, construction, business operations or related field
  • Minimum eight years in a progressively responsible operations role, with experience in operational oversight
  • Experience in a managerial role, supervising staff and fostering accountability
  • Experience with ticketing, sales and revenue reporting, and daily cash handling
  • A passion for the Museum and its mission
  • Ability to convey information to people of all ages and backgrounds in a compelling way
  • Open-mindedness: ability to see things from many points of view
  • Ability to develop and adhere to budgets
  • Ability to lead staff and set an example
  • Strategic thinking and creativity
  • Familiarity with facilities management, information technology, and managing staff
  • Ability to accomplish goals through collaboration with internal and outsourced relationship.
  • Ability to communicate with the Executive Team and Board of Trustees in an articulate, succinct manner that provides objective evidence of success and vision
