Museum History

Explore & More Children's Museum was opened in 1994 by a grassroots group of parents, educators and designers with one goal – creating a museum just for kids.  We first opened in June 1994, with a small array of exhibits.  Just two years later, the museum space was doubled with new themed exhibits and complementary programs.  By 2000, Explore & More needed a new home and moved to its current location.  With three times as much space, even more exhibits were added and unique programs became the backbone of the museum’s growing education program.

Today, the museum has over 5,000 square feet filled with hands-on exhibits and exploration. Its program schedule includes on-going activity days and celebrations for the general public. There are specialty programs at the museum for students in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade, scouts and preschool students.  We also present programs in schools and libraries throughout the region. The museum ensures that all children have access to the wonderful learning opportunities we present through a free admission fund and free or discounted programming.
